What is Kindle Vella?

Kindle Vella is a platform for episodic fiction, but that is not all of what Kindle Vella is. Kindle Vella is “Candy Crush” for smart people. And let’s face it, Amazon Prime has not been great with multi-million dollar budgets at creating great new fiction. On the opposite side of the spectrum, leave that to the independent author/publisher.

Is it expensive?

Hell to the no, in fact you can start reading for free! You can find stories in your favorite genre and read the first three episodes for free every time. You can read every stories’ first 3 episodes for free. Also, as of May 2022 you can get 500 tokens for free.

Do I need to create an account?

Actually, if you already have an Amazon account, you do not need to create an account. If you live under a rock and never have used Amazon for anything, then yes, create an Amazon account. But if not, go to your Amazon account or Kindle reader app and search Kindle Vella and claim your free 500 tokens.

Why would I choose to read Kindle Vella?

Because it is fun! What is Kindle Vella? It is a place to read serial fiction. If you crave “Adventure or Romance or Fantasy or Erotica,” you can find it on Kindle Vella. It’s like, what else are you going to do when you are stuck in traffic? Or how many times have you bought a book and in the third chapter, you realized it was not the book for you? The good thing about Kindle Vella is that you can read the first few episodes with little or nothing invested and find a better story if you are not intrigued.

It’s currently only available in the U.S.

Hopefully, this will change soon and it will be worldwide, but for now only a few people in North America get to use it. Ironically, many people outside the U.S. would like to try it but the chances of them being able to will depend on the success of the platform in North America.

What is a Token worth?

The first 3 episodes of every kindle Vella are free but after that each episode cost 1 token per 100 words but it’s rounded down. So if the episode has 1999 words, it will only cost 10 tokens. The shortest an episode can be is 600 words so that would cost 6 tokens. I am sure the price or rules could change, but as of May 20th 2022, that is the rate.

Who would enjoy Kindle Vella the most? (What is Kindle Vella?)

My honest opinion is that readers who want very specific stories can benefit the most. If you wanted a very specific type of read, you can use the hashtags that describe your interest. For instance, if you wanted to read a story with Sci-Fi and Harem Fantasy with Time Travel and Aliens, you could use the hashtags #timetravel #haremfantasy #sci-fi and #aliens. This would give you stories that have those elements.

Is Kindle Vella for everyone?

No, of course not, some people still have not adapted to reading ebooks. But the beauty of it is that so much of it is free. Why wouldn’t anyone just try it? I don’t know why. Especially since so many of us get stuck with time on our hands waiting for a bus or, in line at a bank, the DMV, or in the bathroom, or waiting at your child’s soccer practice, these are perfect moments to read. Really, I guess sit is for the adventurous souls who want to find new fiction from new sources.

For my supportive readers only…

Just for my readers who post honest review and email me regularly. Please check out Kindle Vella and give me a thumbs up or a crown if you can it boost my stories in the algorithm for new readers to find them. Search for my story “John Price: You Must Save The Human Race.” on Kindle Vella and give it a thumbs up.

I’m not sure about the books on Facebook. But Kindle Vella episodes are at at least 600 words long each some are over 2000 words or more. I doubt you will see a series with 2000 episodes that would be 1,200,000 words. Even longer than the “Way of Kings” lol…

    Hi Merick,
It’s a shame that this ‘Kindle Vella thing’ aint available outside of the States.
I need to read the second book of John Price. Just that there’s no available ebooks that I can buy and download for reading. Any chance of a PDF version of the 2nd book that I could purchase from you directly?
    Thank you
    Dave
