The Box Set The Game of Armored Combat.
- All you need to start playing the Game of Battletech. You should at least buy the Box Set The Game of Armored Combat. There are other box sets, including the Alpha Strike Box Set. Alpha Strike is a separate game than Battletech. It’s a much more simplified game for quick battles. There is the Clan Invasion Box Set and The Mercenearies Box Set, but The Game of Armored Combat is where you want to start. Eventually you will want to get a copy of the advanced rulebooks including Total Warfare.

A friend to play Battletech with.
2. A friend to play Battletech with. If you have a good friend who is down to play tabletop strategy games, then you are blessed. If not, there are a lot of Facebook groups. They have Facebook groups for cities and states. So if you are in Houston, Texas or Tulsa, Oklahoma, they both have Battletech groups on Facebook. If you live in a smaller town, you may need to travel or start your own Facebook Battletech Group.
Pencils and extra record sheets.
3. Pencils and extra record sheets printed from Mech factory. https://battletech.rpg.hu/index.php They have the best universal record sheets for Mechs, Vehicles, Battle armor, Infantry, VTOLS and Aerospace Fighters and everything else.
Extra dice.
4. Extra dice. The box has one set o it’s just more fun to have extra dice and can make the game go faster if you have a lot of weapons to fire.

A table to play on.
5. A table to play on. This is basic, you might say jeeze of course, but you may not want to play at the kitchen table but in a spare room or something. An inexpensive folding table will work just fine. Or you could build a custom gaming table that will impress your friends.

Movement Dice.
6. Movement Dice. You do not have to have these to play the game. But it’s like a shortcut to the game and I like using them. They give you the movement modifier for defense and targeting.

Army Painter paints.
7. Army Painter paints. Once you decide your faction, Inner Sphere or Clans and the specific House or Clan or Mercenary group, you are going to want to paint your mechs. Each faction has a unique color scheme and design for painting. You may want to start with the Battletech paint starter set. the set includes some speed paints. But painting your miniatures is a rabbit hole. Some players really enjoy the process and others even hire others to paint their minis. Don’t feel bad if you are just starting off. You can play with unpainted miniatures but if you go to Battletech events, they may expect you to have your minis painted. One simple tip if you want to get your painting game up just a bit more professional. Buy a spay on primer from Army Painters. The light coat you will get without having to use a brush will help the miniature keep more definition. Use a wash after the miniature is done with the primary coat of paint to bring out even more definition.
Best Practices.
8. Best Practices use Battletech Master Unit List for BV or Battle Value for your Lance or Star that is going into battle. Because you will want an evenly matched game with equal Battle Value for you and your opponent. If push comes to shove, you may be able to start playing Battletech with just the first two points on this list. You can find some of the tings on this list at https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/
