Have you seen the Hulu Series Future Man? Future Man is a Hulu series that was first released in November of 2017. The show featured Josh Hutcherson, as Josh Futturman, a young man working as a lowly janitor in a bio-lab company working on a cure for herpes. Futturman’s only talent is playing a challenging video game that he refuses to stop playing till he beats the game.

The Last Starfighter.
Josh references the movie The Last Starfighter, a 1984 Sci-Fi movie where a teenage boy masters a video game and is chosen by aliens to be the Last Starfighter. Ironically the original premise of Future Man is The Last Starfighter. Tiger played by Eliza Coupe and Wolf played by Derek Wilson come from the future and choose Josh “Future Man” as the savior of the human race.

A Dystopian Future.
Resistance fighters, Tiger and Wolf come from a dystopian future where the world is controlled by a totalitarian race of biotics. On a comical note, all the biotics are described as being 10’s in attractiveness. Recurring gags about the Biotics being 10’s keep appearing, like a line “How hot were they dad?” keep coming up in the show. In the future, the resistance is forced to live underground in the sewers and eat rats. The savior, Josh Futterman is the world’s last hope.

A Time Travel Adventure.
Of course, time travel would have to come into the mix if they are going to change the future. Seasons one and two are focused on stopping Futterman’s boss from discovering the cure to herpes which leads to the vaccine that causes the biotics. Our hero Josh wants to stop Tiger and Wolf from killing Doctor Kronish as a baby. They get into a lot of trouble when they travel back to the 1960s. In the 1960s Josh tries his best to cock-block Kronish and keep him from getting herpes. Josh believes if he can stop Dr. Kronish from getting herpes in the first place he will never seek to find a cure for herpes and never accidentally create the Biotics.
The Trio ends up killing a cop and starting a war with a biker gang and giving a young student the idea for the iPhone which alters history and the future.

Why I loved this show.
Firstly, this show has some of the most over-the-top humor. Tiger and Wolf are such hardcore straight-faced killers that it makes for insane dark comedy. Josh’s parents are played by Ed Begely Jr, and Glenne Heady and they are hilarious. Ed is a veteran of the mockumentary comedies that became popular after Spinal Tap, like Best in Show.
Secondly, a lot of the plot twist are unexpected. Thirdly, it’s just funny as hell.

Somewhat crass humor it’s rated MA.
Seth Rogen is the executive producer of Future Man, so it should be no surprise it’s rated MA for Mature Audiences. The show’s humor is juvenile but made for grownups. With Rogen at the helm of this series, it has many big guest appearances. Singer Cory Hart guest appeared as himself from the 1980s. David Koechner made an appearance as crazy uncle Barry. Will Forte makes an appearance in season 2.
I loved this Hulu Series; I give it 4 stars.
I give this silly Sci-Fi, Time Travel Series 4 stars. The only reason I give it less than five is that after the first season I feel like the plot got obscured a bit but it was still hugely funny.
