Review of Spider-Man No Way Home

Spider-Man No way Home Released December 13th 2021. The final movie in the Spider-Man Home- Trilogy. Review By Merick N.H. Ulrik

Spider-Man: No Way Home

If you are a fan of traditional superhero movies and comics, this movie is redemptive. There is a lot of fan service in the film. I have broken this review into Two Parts: 1. The Non-Spoiler review, and 2. The Spoiler Review. FYI it’s hard to say anything about this film without using Spoilers so do not go to Wikipedia. Because once you see it you can not un-see it lol.

The Non-Spoiler review of Spider-Man No Way Home.

Firstly I saw this movie in the theaters, and unless you absolutely cannot, I recommend you see it in the theater, it is worth watching there. After watching the first fifteen minutes I realized I had forgotten to see Spider-Man Far From Home. I immediately had to go on Amazon and watch the previous movie there.

Secondly, The film starts right after the events following “Spider-Man Far From Home”. You have to see that movie and Homecoming to truly appreciate the movie.

A departure from the carefree Spider-Man of MCU.

Consequently, I was unprepared because I had not read any reviews but instead expected that this movie would be similar to Spider-Man Homecoming. This film puts our MCU Spider-Man in serious situations. He is faced with less carefree scenarios. Tom Holland continued portraying the teenage Spider-Man as the love-able Spider-Man but the stakes have changed. A lot of the light-hearted high school shenanigans are gone.

Spider-Man No Way Home is a Less Woke and Less Broke Film.

This film decimated sales of Disney’s MCU films Black Widow and The Eternals and Shanghai and Captain Marvel. It Topped sales of Avengers Infinity Wars as the 2nd highest domestic box office grossing film opening at $260M.

This could be because it was filled with fan service as you will see in the movie and in the spoiler part of this review.

Spider-Man No Way Home is No Way a Disney Film!

Sony and Columbia Studios and Marvel collaborated together to make Spider-Man No Way Home. Now because of this, I would like to hope that the themes in the movie are a prediction of new Marvel Studio trends. But unfortunately, I am not going to hold my breath because Sony is taking credit for the direction of this film.

A Five Star Superhero Movie.

My overall impression of this film was that it was a refreshing and entertaining return to teenage comic book-loving superhero movies. I can’t be more specific without spoilers. This is a Five-star movie. And because of that I recommend it to fans of the traditional superhero film.

Part 2 Spoiler Review.

DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ SPOILERS GO TO YOUR LOCAL THEATER AND WATCH THE MOVIE OR RENT IT NOW!

FAN SERVICE GALORE!

This movie is jam-packed with old Spider-Man Villians and Spider-Men from different universes. My favorite performance was that of Willem Dafoe as The Green Goblin who had several scenes in the third part of the movie. Not surprisingly Dafoe’s performance was incredible, at one point he even said the famous line, “You know I’m a bit of scientist myself.”

Defoe, shined in his legendary role as the troubled dual personality scientist and diabolical villain. As well as Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius, which was interesting seeing Green Goblin and Doc Oc together. Several other notable villains were showcased throughout the film including Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon / Electro.

Three Spider-Men?

Tobey Maguire returned as Peter Parker and Spiderman at the same time as Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield As Peter Parker /Spiderman at the same time. This is because Doctor Strange’s spell that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) made him botch, which opened a door in the multiverse causing them as well as Spider-Man’s arch villains of all time to be drawn there.

This movie was a delight. I highly recommend all real fans get out there and watch it in theaters or rent it online.
